Terms of Use
Welcome to iTrailog. These terms apply to the iTrailog iOS app (including the Apple Watch app and widgets), the Android app and the website itrailog.com. By downloading, installing or using iTrailog you agree to these terms; if you don't agree, please don't use it.
Please note: the locations, tracks, maps and navigation prompts in iTrailog are for reference only and must not be relied on for your safety outdoors. You take part in outdoor activities at your own risk — see section 3.
1. About iTrailog
iTrailog is developed and operated by the independent developer Yiwei Cao ("we"). It is free for now and needs no account.
Fees: iTrailog is free for now. We may introduce paid features or a subscription in the future; before we do, the price and what it includes will be explained in the app and on the website. Payments go through the App Store or Google Play, and refunds follow that store’s rules. The tracks you record always remain yours and can be exported at any time; they won’t be locked behind a payment.
2. Licence
As long as you follow these terms, we grant you a personal, non-commercial, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use iTrailog on devices you own or control. You must not:
- use iTrailog for anything unlawful or that infringes the rights (including privacy) of others;
- interfere with, attack or abuse the website and APIs, for example by mass-submitting feedback, faking statistics or attempting unauthorised access;
- remove or hide the copyright attributions on maps;
- reverse engineer the app beyond what the law allows, or resell or rent it.
3. Outdoor safety and navigation data
The location, tracks, distance, altitude, speed, time, navigation prompts, maps and place names shown in iTrailog are for reference only. They may be inaccurate, delayed or interrupted because of weak or blocked GPS signals, differences between devices, low battery, system restrictions, or map data that is out of date, incomplete or wrong.
- Don't use iTrailog as your only means of navigation or safety. Before you set out, learn about the route, weather, terrain and risks yourself, and carry a paper map, a compass, enough battery and a reliable way to call for help.
- Follow local laws and the rules of nature reserves, parks and private land; a path shown on a map does not mean it is passable or that you may enter it.
- Don't operate your phone while driving or cycling. In an emergency, call your local emergency number right away.
Outdoor activities carry inherent risks. You decide for yourself and bear all the risk of using iTrailog for outdoor activities.
4. Maps and third-party content
Map tiles, satellite imagery and place-name data come from third parties and remain the copyright of their providers, including Apple, Tianditu (China's National Platform for Common Geospatial Information Services), © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), OpenTopoMap (CC-BY-SA), CyclOSM and USGS The National Map. Your use of this content is subject to their own terms and usage policies.
Third-party services may change, be rate-limited or stop at any time; we cannot guarantee their availability or accuracy. Borders, names and labels on the maps do not represent our position.
5. Your content
Tracks, waypoints and exported files you record or import belong to you and are stored only on your device. We provide no cloud backup, so please export and back up anything important; we cannot recover data lost because a device is lost or damaged, the app is uninstalled, or the system fails.
For what you send us as feedback, you allow us to use it to reply to you and to improve iTrailog, and we may freely adopt your suggestions without payment. We never publish your contact details or screenshots.
6. Privacy
How we handle data is described in the Privacy Policy.
7. Provided as is
To the fullest extent permitted by law it is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, continued availability, freedom from errors, or that data will not be lost.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any direct or indirect loss arising from the use of, or inability to use, iTrailog — including getting lost, injury, damage to property, loss of data, or the consequences of relying on inaccurate information.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, or affects the mandatory rights you have as a consumer where you live.
9. Updates, changes and termination
We may update, change, suspend or discontinue iTrailog or any of its features (including map sources) at any time without notice. The Android version downloaded from the website announces new versions through in-app updates. You may stop using and uninstall iTrailog at any time; if you break these terms, your licence ends automatically.
10. App stores
If you got iTrailog from the Apple App Store or TestFlight, Apple's Media Services Terms and the Licensed Application End User License Agreement also apply; where they conflict with these terms, Apple's terms prevail. If you got it from another app store, that store's rules apply as well.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the operator's place of habitual residence, without affecting the rights the mandatory consumer protection laws of your country or region give you. If a dispute arises, both sides will first try to resolve it amicably.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time and change the version and effective date at the top of this page; significant changes are announced in the app or on the website. Continuing to use iTrailog after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
13. Contact
